On behalf of the Stanley Foundation, I would like to invite you to a reception on July 1 celebrating the publication of a new book, Powers and Principles: International Leadership in a Shrinking World (Lexington) that collects the results of a recent Stanley Foundation initiative.
In early 2008, my former colleague Michael Schiffer and I launched a project using the concept of responsible stakeholdership to gauge the prospects for a stronger international community. In other words, what if the world's major global and regional powers came into closer alignment—with shared approaches to 21st-century threats and challenges? The project asked experts to examine nine powerful nations, the EU, and the case of a generic oil company and speculate how each might deal with the internal and external challenges posed by international norms.

We were fortunate to recruit a group of highly accomplished analysts to take part and are eager to share the results with you and other colleagues. Complimentary copies of the book will be available at the event but, in the meantime, the table of contents and other details can be found on the Lexington Books Web site. We expect many of the contributing writers will be at the reception.

The reception will take place on July 1, 2009, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Washington office of the Stanley Foundation (co-located with the Henry L. Stimson Center) at 1111 19th Street, NW, 12th Floor.

To respond to this invitation or for questions about logistics, please contact Elaine Schilling, program assistant, by e-mail at eschilling@stanleyfoundation.org or telephone 563-264-6888.

Best regards,
David Shorr
Program Officer, The Stanley Foundation
